About Us

Welcome to Mermaid Kisses, here I've written a small description of how this shop came about.

My mother has always been creative, growing up we often did a lot of arts and crafts together. At age 12 my life got turned upside-down as I developed a very rare illness called Narcolepsy. The diagnosis was slow and I missed out on three years of secondary school education. During these years, we did a lot of creative sessions together which is where my love of arts and crafts flourished. Eventually on the right medication, I did go back into education at college to gain a few GCSEs and undertake a BTEC in Acting. This was to help me regain some social interaction and self-esteem. I did manage to get into University on an unconditional offer after auditioning to study a bachelor's degree in Theatre and Performance. The final dissertation was a challenge as COVID-19 erupted halfway through my last year and I had to write the final piece in the first lockdown. The pressure of the course along with the pandemic took its toll on my mental health. To cope with it all my mum and I went back to the Art and began crafting again, developing skills working with epoxy resin and polymer clay. With the second and third lockdowns affecting the UK as much as it has, I decided to set myself the goal of setting up my own online business to sell the crafts I've been making.

Having lived in Cornwall for 25 years and getting involved in various art projects through the community and school, my inspiration comes from the beautiful Cornish oceans, harbours, and local myths and legends.

I hope you love the jewellery and other products on Mermaid Kisses, as everything on sale has been hand crafted and each item will be a totally original piece.
